Personalising your wedding day is so much fun and is a great way to unleash your creativity and create something unique to you. Here we will look at ways that you can really elevate your game with some amazing seating plan ideas.
Here are a few tips before we get stuck in.
When hosting a wedding outdoors you need to be aware that it may be windy. This will affect the type of seating plan that you have as just one gust of wind could send your place cards to the ground.
Make it legible. Calligraphy is very popular at the moment however, it can be hard to read. Small text can also be difficult to read so it is essential to make sure that your table seating plan is clear, and readable.
Unleash Your Creativity!
What is your wedding style? What will work with the décor you already have? Your ideas need to compliment your table settings, florals and stationery items you already have. You do not want a rustic table seating plan if the other elements in your wedding are oozing luxury and vice versa.
Think about your joint interests, perhaps you love movies and could have a reference to your favourite movie. Maybe you love travelling and would like to incorporate this in some way. You could call your table names of countries you have visited and create a map as your table seating plan with each country pinned with a table seating plan card.
If your style is glamourous, you could use a mirror or perspex table seating plan. These give a luxurious look whilst providing the perfect backdrop for either hand-written calligraphy or printed table seating cards displayed on them.
Here’s a quick tip: create individual table cards, if you have to change at the last minute you only need to adjust a few cards and not the entire table seating plan. It doesn’t really matter if you lose guests on a table seating plan but it can become difficult if you have to add them at the last minute.

You could use favours as your table seating plan, maybe you are hosting a destination wedding and would love each guest to receive a gift which is indigenous to that area, a bottle of olive oil from Spain or Italy, a ceramic tile from Portugal with the guest’s name and table number tied to it. You may love caricatures and could do individual ones of your guests that would double up as place settings and a personalised gift your guests can take away.
If you have an interest in board games it would be so much fun to have a seating plan of the board, for instance each table is a Monopoly board and the guest’s names are arranged on each board.
There are many beautiful ideas you can incorporate in your wedding for nature lovers from tiny potted succulents for your guests to take home or seed packets they can sprinkle in their gardens. In years to come your guests will remember your wedding every time the flowers bloom.
For foodies you could have beautiful boxes of gorgeous chocolate truffles or pretty boxes of macaroons lined up with each guest’s name and table number printed on pretty complimentary labels.
If you are creating a food related table seating plan and are hosting your wedding in a warmer climate avoid anything that melts such as chocolate and jelly sweets. Also remember some foods can become a bit stinky such as cheese in the heat! If hosting your wedding outdoors do make sure food is wrapped and hygienic there is nothing worse than seeing anything like this covered in flies.
