How Quickly Can I Plan a Wedding?

There are many reasons to plan a wedding quickly.  You may not fancy a long engagement, perhaps you have a short period of time to get married before embarking on a career opportunity abroad, you may not want to spend a long time planning or just want to get married as quickly as possible.

Generally, couples take anywhere between a year to two years to plan their wedding.  However, it is possible to get married in weeks providing notice has been given and the correct protocol followed.  Here are some tips to help you fast forward your wedding planning.

Whilst wedding planning can be overwhelming and stressful at the best of times, planning your wedding in a shorter period of time will mean that you have to be decisive, be flexible, possibly make compromises and be open to ideas.  Having laser like focus on the task ahead and acting on your ideas will mean that you build momentum and be surprised at how quickly your wedding plan comes together.

Decision Making

With a limited timeframe there is no time for dilly dallying or second guessing yourselves.  Develop a clear vision early and stick with it.

The first decision you’ll need to make is where you want to get married.  The general location of your wedding is important.  Will it be a destination, city or rural wedding?  At this stage you won’t have a final guest count but an estimate will help you secure a venue that is the right size.  Find more information on choosing a London wedding venue here.

Sending Out Invites

Any guests you may wish to invite will need time to plan ahead so invites should be sent out as soon as the venue has been booked.  This could be in the form of a “Save the Date” text directing them to a wedding website, you could follow up with paper invites if you wish.  You could go completely digital, get creative and build a wedding website where you can share essential wedding details, wedding updates, gift registry and manage your guest list/RSVPs.

Finding Suppliers

This may be your first time ever planning a wedding and you may not know where to start.  It is definitely worth considering hiring a Wedding Planner to plan your wedding.   Many planners will do short term planning and have a wealth of suppliers they already know and trust.

If you are on top of the wedding planning but would like to get expert help on the style of your day, consider hiring a Wedding Designer/Wedding Stylist who will take on the task of designing/styling the aesthetics of your day freeing you up to concentrate on other wedding planning tasks.  As with a Wedding Planner, they will have a wealth of trusted suppliers and will put a design team together to bring your wedding vision to life.   Learn more about working with a Wedding Designer/Wedding Stylist here.

If this isn’t within your budget you will need to be flexible, a lot of suppliers get booked up in advance.  You may therefore have to consider a weekday wedding or an out of season wedding as you will find more suppliers may be available at short notice.  If they are available, book them, be ready to pay deposits and make sure you have contracts with each supplier as to exactly what they will be providing for your wedding day.  Get details, you don’t want to book a photographer thinking you had booked them for the whole day and they are only contracted for 6 hours.

It is definitely possible to plan your wedding within a very short time frame.  Just have a clear vision, be decisive, book your professional team and enjoy your day!
